#19: Wreckless Eric – (I’d Go The) Whole Wide World (1977)
I don’t have a huge amount to impart about this, other than it’s lovely – something to induce a smile; very much the type of track that appeals to my soppy side. There’s only one girl in the world for you, and she probably lives in Tahiti; a glorious, self-deprecating lyric, even if my cynical side has this record down as a lament to a little light stalking. Released on the iconic Stiff Records label, this is such a simple construct; built around two chords, even I can fashion myself a version (and I usually sound like I’m wearing boxing gloves whenever I pick up a guitar). A record everyone should have in their record collection – 7” vinyl, natch – this is Wreckless Eric.
