One for every connoisseur of obtusely angled comedy. And infamous TV interviews from the seventies featuring naughty boys and girls – from the BBC show It’s Kevin.
As a sketch it’s not only fantastically funny, but so, so clever with it. You can tell that Kevin Eldon has studied the Bill Grundy interview with The Sex Pistols down to it’s most minute detail, before replicating with a vivid alacrity. The mumbling, the body langauge, Johnny Rotten’s sly looks to camera – it’s all there, along with verbatim dialogue (NSFW due to the swears, you won’t be surprised to read), and Grundy’s awkward attempt to invite Siouxsie Sioux back to his dressing room. It’s rare that a TV comedy can have me guffawing like a loon, because surrealism and intelligence are actually pretty rare facets when it comes down to the mainstream (the last sketch I recall having the same effect is this one; also NSFW, and also featuring Matt Berry); more of this sort of thing, please.
