This time last year I spent far too much time compiling votes for your favourite albums of 2013 (results here: t’was quite the surprise, Nick Cave out-polling John Grant). And so much fun is dicking about in Excel that I’ve decided to repeat the whole endeavour in a 2014 context. A snapshot survey of this year’s finest LPs, hopefully stripped of all that poseur glam and voguish nonsense offered up by music journalists and hipster record stores (not forgetting my own over-long Album of the Year piece, which I’ll have up on this blog mid-December).
And as sad as it sounds, I actually get quite the kick soliciting entries from friends and acquaintances, Twitter chums and readers of this humble site alike. The opportunity to discuss and debate this record or that is a precious thing indeed. We should do it more often. We’ll have to arrange an evening in our favourite bar; I might even buy you a drink.
But moving on; your homework is to hit me with your favourite four albums of the year – RANKED IN ORDER – and I’ll collate and publish the results (based upon a 4-3-2-1 scoring system: tie-breakers being number of votes). Voting options include the comments section below, via email – lazerguidedmelody (at) gmail.com – on Twitter (@lazerguidedblog), or simply accosting me with your enthusiasm in the street.
Deadline: December 10th. I look forward to hearing from you (and, especially, from YOU).
(Also: if joining in with year-end, music-related list making floats your flotilla, you can do far worse that follow @TheFestive50, who’s busy doing a similar exercise with your top five tracks of 2014).
