Every year – for reasons long since forgotten – I solicit your votes for album of the year. A kind of companion piece to my own overlong diatribe on the subject (that I’ll be revealing mid-December, just as long as you promise not to get too sick of bloody lists). Last year’s results produced a fascinating trawl through twenty-five of 2014’s best in show (even if I agreed with little of it); Benji by Sun Kil Moon just edging out The War of Drugs. This year – well, I’ll wager that there’ll be votes for Courtney Barnett and John Grant and (stop sniggering at the back) New Order, but knowing you lot, also fascinating items that demand a listen (or a re-visit); the whole point of this being the opportunity to discover something new without the sick and twisted minds of the music press decreeing “that’s a great album” on your behalf.
Your homework is to hit me with your favourite four albums of the year – RANKED IN ORDER – and I’ll collate and publish the results (based upon a 4-3-2-1 scoring system: tie-breakers being number of votes). Voting options include the comments section below, via email – lazerguidedmelody (at) gmail.com – on Twitter (@lazerguidedblog), via Facebook (which I rarely use, but the option’s there if that’s your thing), or simply accosting me with your enthusiasm in the street.
Deadline: December 10th. I look forward to hearing from you (and, especially, from YOU).
(Also: if joining in with year-end, music-related list making floats your flotilla, you can do far worse that follow @TheFestive50, who’s busy doing a similar exercise with your top five tracks of 2015).
